Here in New Zealand at The Fabric Store HQ, we are gearing up for summer!
After months of winter layering, our pasty pins are soon to be back in the public realm. Oh dear… In readiness for this monumental occasion, we decided to sew up Peppermint Magazine’s latest FREE downloadable pattern. A super cute pair of shorts with a paper bag waist and tie cord.
Pattern | This pattern is available as a free print-at-home download via the peppermint sewing school. Check it out here.
Fabric | We decided to sew our shorts up in a classic mid blue chambray, however, this pattern is super adaptable and would look great sewn up in linen, any style of mid-weight cotton, or in a Liberty Tana Lawn print. Both our retail branches and online fabric store stock loads of beautiful styles that would be perfect for this project.
Results | We were SO impressed with how our shorts turned out. The pattern instructions were to super easy to follow making for a stress-free & simple sewing experience! They are crazy comfy, and the waist detailing looks great with a simple tucked in t-shirt for a chic & pared back summer look. No doubt this is the first of MANY pairs we will be whipping up.
Pattern Note | We did make one deviation from the pattern instructions, inserting metal eyelets where the pattern calls for buttonholes. If you want to go for the eyelet option, they can be purchased from most haberdashery stores. However, make sure you reinforce with fusing and do a practice eyelet on a piece of scrap fabric.
