This week on the blog we bring you a pattern review on the Collins Top by In The Folds. A big thank you to Abbie from the Christchurch store for making this one up and giving her thoughts on the process.
Pattern | The Collins Top by In The Folds is a super cool loose trapeze style top with panels and a high low hem, perfect for wearing with high waisted bottoms. This was Abbie’s first time using a PDF pattern and she loved being able to select her size in Adobe Acrobat to print out. Abbie chose to make up the sleeveless version and had no troubles sewing it up with the super detailed instructions.
The pattern instructions suggest to focus on bust measurements when selecting the right size and to make a toile to ensure a great fit. If you get stuck on the fit, the In The Folds Blog has a bunch of super helpful posts and sew-alongs! Abbie found the fit a little snug around the high bust and armholes so will make a few adjustments next time she makes this top up.
Fabric | For this pattern, stripes or contrasting fabrics would work best to make the most of the panels. This pattern would also make up beautifully in printed or plain crepe de chines, linens or cottons!
The Collins Top will definitely be a spring and summer fav in Abbie’s wardrobe paired up with high rise shorts or worn over merino on those cooler Christchurch days. Head over to In The Folds Instagram page for some Collins Top inspiration and talk to our staff in-store about suitable fabrics for this project.
